Baptism and First Communion

Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation transportation in Houston

For a baptism, First Communion or Confirmation in Houston, families usually book one block of time: home to the church, then on to the celebration, with grandparents and godparents riding along. Most First Communions fall in spring. Send us the parish, the Mass time, the reception address and the number of riders, and we quote by text. Se habla español.

When are First Communions in the Houston area?

First Holy Communion and Confirmation Masses commonly take place in April, May and June. The timing follows the Easter season and the end of the religious-education year.

In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, children complete two consecutive years of Faith Formation first, and they generally become eligible in second grade, so most parish celebrations land in the spring semester. Each parish sets its own preparation. Sacred Heart Parish in Conroe, for example, runs monthly sacramental preparation from second grade, with required Sunday Mass attendance, a retreat and talks for parents.

Once your parish announces the date and Mass time, send them to us. Spring Saturdays are when these celebrations bunch together.

How the day usually runs

Add the pickup, an early arrival, the service, photos and the transfer to the reception, and we quote the resulting time. After a baptism, the gathering is usually separate from the church: at home, in the parish hall or at a restaurant, with the godparents and close relatives.

White dresses, veils and suits in the car

Communicants traditionally wear white, a dress and veil for girls and a suit for boys, a custom that dates from the 19th century and stands for purity. A white outfit and a full skirt both deserve a little planning.

  • Seat the child by the door that opens toward the church steps, so the dress does not drag across the seat.
  • Keep food and drinks for after the photos.
  • Choose a vehicle with headroom if the veil is long: a Sprinter or an SUV is easier than a low sedan.
  • Bring a small bag for the veil once the Mass is over.

Godparents, grandparents and the family group

Padrinos and madrinas, the godparents, are part of the day, and each family decides who rides with whom. Some families travel as one group; others send a car for the grandparents and let the godparents meet everyone at the church. Tell us the riders for each leg, and we size the vehicles to that list.

Children aboard: the house rules

Many of these trips carry children, though adults are baptized and confirmed too. If any rider is a minor, an adult aged 18 or older holds the booking and the ride is alcohol free for everyone, adults included. When every rider is an adult, alcohol is for those 21 and older, within the operator’s rules.

What does a car for the day cost?

Cars are booked by the hour with a 3-hour minimum, at the same price for pickups in any of our Houston service areas (Downtown, Galleria, the Texas Medical Center, IAH, Hobby, The Woodlands, Katy and Sugar Land). On our current rates, a 4-hour block is $500.00 for a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and $360.00 for a Lincoln Navigator, and a 3-hour Chevrolet Suburban is $255.00. More than 5 hours is quoted by text.

Receipts are emailed after the day.

Questions

Why is First Communion usually in April or May?

The celebration is tied to the Easter season and to the end of the catechism year, so spring is when parishes schedule it. In the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, children usually finish two years of Faith Formation and are eligible from second grade, which puts most local ceremonies in the spring semester.

Why do first communicants wear white?

White symbolizes purity, and the custom of a white dress and veil for girls and a suit for boys goes back to the 19th century. Some parishes use white robes instead. For the car, it means planning a clean seat, an easy door and no food on the way to the church.

How much does a limo for a First Communion cost?

It depends on the vehicle, the hours and the date. The Sprinter on our rate card is $500.00 for 4 hours from our Houston service areas, and SUVs cost less. Stretch limousines and party buses come from partners and are quoted by text. The confirmation shows the total before you commit.

How long should we book the car?

Four to six hours is the usual range for a First Communion, covering the pickup before Mass, any photos and the family celebration. A one-way ride from the church to the restaurant is also possible if the family drives itself to Mass. Hourly bookings start at three hours.

How many people fit in one vehicle?

Our sedans and the S-Class seat three passengers, the Escalade and Suburban seat six, and the Sprinter seats thirteen. A stretch limousine typically seats eight to twelve, and party buses run from about ten to fifty seats; both are partner vehicles we quote on request.

Can the godparents ride with the family?

Yes, if there are seats. Tell us who rides on each leg, and we choose a vehicle that fits everyone. Many families put the parents, the child and the godparents in one SUV, and send the grandparents in a second car or a Sprinter with the rest of the family.

Is alcohol allowed in the car after the Mass?

Not when any rider is a minor: then the trip is alcohol free for everyone, including the adults, and the person who books must be 18 or older and reachable by phone. With only adults aboard, alcohol is for those 21 and older, subject to the operator’s rules. Celebrate with a toast at the restaurant or at home.

Do you cover baptisms and Confirmations too?

Yes. A baptism is often a shorter day, from home to the church and then to a gathering with godparents and close relatives. A Confirmation follows a similar pattern to First Communion, usually in spring. Send the parish, the time and the riders.
