Diwali and South Asian celebrations

Diwali and South Asian celebration transportation in Houston

Diwali falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026, and on Friday, October 29, 2027, and Houston-area celebrations run from mid-October to mid-November. We move families to the mandir, to festival grounds and through multi-day weddings: several households, elders who need an easy step, and guests shuttled between hotel and venue. Each plan is quoted by text.

Diwali dates and the Houston season

Festivities around Houston cluster between mid-October and mid-November, and several events often fall on the same weekend. At BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Stafford, the Diwali and Annakut celebrations have historically stretched across about three weekends around the holiday.

Individual venues had not yet published their 2026 dates when we reviewed this page, so confirm each host’s own schedule before you book the car. The festival date itself is fixed by the calendar below.

Mandirs, festivals and venues around Houston

Fireworks nights draw large crowds who often travel to the temple together. With a chauffeur, the family steps out as close to the entrance as the venue allows, and the car returns at an agreed time after the program ends.

Sangeet, mehndi and the wedding: several days, several addresses

South Asian weddings often run across several events and venues, with many guests arriving from out of town. Call each event by your own family’s name for it; we build the schedule from your list, not from a template.

Guest shuttles usually work as a loop. One published sangeet plan ran complimentary hotel-to-venue shuttles at set departure times, using 14-passenger vehicles that left every 15 to 20 minutes. Bigger weddings scale the same pattern up to buses: one family arranged them for about 70 relatives between the hotel, the wedding and the reception, and another moved roughly 400 guests that way.

The baraat: what we provide, and what comes from other vendors

In a baraat, the groom’s procession, family and friends celebrate on the way to the venue. How the groom arrives is the family’s choice, and some families choose a car.

We provide the vehicle, the chauffeur and the timing. Horses, bands, dhol players and DJs are booked through other vendors, and your planner or venue coordinates them with us.

  • For a baraat using a car, confirm the start, the finish and the permitted vehicle movement with the venue and planner before requesting the vehicle.
  • Allow generous time in the schedule for the procession itself.
  • Tell us who rides with the groom, and who rides in the cars behind.
  • Have the coordinator text the chauffeur when the procession is ready.

Elders, several households and a comfortable ride

Diwali visits and wedding days often begin at several homes. One Sprinter can collect two or three households in turn, or each household can have its own SUV and meet the others at the mandir.

For grandparents, choose the vehicle by the step, not by the size. Seat them in the first car to leave, so they reach the venue before the crowd and are first in line for the ride home. If anyone uses a walker or a folding wheelchair, mention it when you request the quote.

Questions

When is Diwali in 2026 and 2027?

Diwali is on Sunday, November 8, 2026, and on Friday, October 29, 2027. Houston’s temple programs, bazaars and festivals spread out around those dates, from mid-October into mid-November, and several can fall on one weekend, so many families book a car for more than one evening.

Where can we celebrate Diwali in Houston?

Recent years have seen celebrations at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Stafford, a Diwali Bazaar at India House, a festival with a parade and fireworks at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, events at Levy Park and Sugar Land Town Square, and a free festival at Asia Society Texas Center. Check each host for this year’s dates.

How do we get to Constellation Field for the Diwali festival without parking?

The ballpark is at 1 Stadium Drive in Sugar Land, and its official directions page lists the parking. With a chauffeur, the family is dropped off and the car comes back at a time you agree, so nobody has to hunt for a space after the fireworks.

How many shuttles do we need between the hotel and the venue?

Divide the guests who need a ride by the seats per vehicle, then decide how often each shuttle can turn around. One sangeet plan used 14-passenger vans leaving every 15 to 20 minutes at set times. Our Sprinter seats 13 and coaches seat up to 34, so we quote the loop from your guest count.

What transportation works for a sangeet or mehndi night?

For family members, SUVs from each home. For guests staying at one hotel, a scheduled shuttle loop with fixed departure times printed on the welcome card or wedding website. Party buses are a popular choice for the wedding party and extended family when the celebrations move between venues.

How should the groom arrive for the baraat?

That is the family’s choice. Some grooms ride a horse, others arrive in a vintage or luxury car. If it is a car, we quote the vehicle and chauffeur; confirm the route and permitted vehicle movement with the venue and planner first. Horses, bands and DJs are arranged through other vendors.

Can you pick up relatives flying in for the wedding?

Yes. Send the flight numbers. We track each flight, shift the pickup when a plane is early or late, and the chauffeur waits at IAH or Hobby arrivals holding a name sign. Several relatives landing close together can share a Sprinter to the hotel.

How quickly will we hear back?

We confirm within 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, every day. For a multi-day wedding, send the events and addresses you know now and add the rest later. The confirmation lists each vehicle and the total for the days you have booked.
